It is with sadness that we write this obituary for both The Virtual Theatre Project and "The Pen is a Mighty Sword" international new play competition. (Born July 31 of 2001. Died January 31, 2011).
We will not belabor our passing, let us say simply that our funding has vanished, leaving us in the position that so many find themselves these days, one that does not allow us to continue our mission to "identify, develop and produce new work written specifically for the stage."
Over the last ten years we have read many, many plays and met some wonderful playwrights and had the distinct pleasure of working with and producing a few. That cycle is now at an end and we want to thank all of you who have submitted to "The Pen is a Mighty Sword" in the past and apologize to those of you who submitted in the 2010/2011 cycle that we are unable to complete the cycle due to the collapse of our funding.
We hope that you will continue to write and by so doing hold up the mirror and keep showing us the possibilities that we as societies and individuals need to see. And to all of you, bold, passionate, compelling voices breathing life into the wilderness of our formulaic world, we say KEEP WRITING…whatever you do, keep writing.
Thanks to all of you who write plays for as Osho would say…you "create your age and time around you. You live in your own age and time."…and we love each and every one of you.
